Sea of Thieves celebrates 30 million users with Gold & Glory Weekend

Rare has announced a surprise “Gold & Glory Weekend” for Sea of Thieves players beginning this weekend. The news was revealed during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase earlier this week in addition to the long-awaited “Captaincy” update. Sea of Thieves has reached over 30 million players between Xbox, Steam, and Xbox Games Pass users. In celebration of the milestone, players will receive double gold and reputation this upcoming weekend, beginning at 6am EST on June 17th through June 20th. In Sea of Thieves, players use in-game gold to buy cosmetics and while the game does feature a premium cash shop (the “Pirate Emporium”), most cosmetics can only be acquired with gold earned in-game. When turning in loot, players also receive an amount of reputation with in-game factions based on the gold value of the loot and other factors. This reputation is required in order to become a Pirate Legend and access the Athena’s Fortune end-game content. This Gold & Glory multiplier also stacks multiplicatively with existing Emissary Flag values. Meaning a Grade 5 Emissary Flag which normally nets players a 2.5x increase to gold and reputation, will now receive a whopping 5x bonus instead.

While the Gold & Glory event is coming in just a few short days, players will have to wait longer for the Captaincy update. Season 7 of Sea of Thieves is expected to release on July 21st, and with it all the features we were promised during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. Sea of Thieves has enjoyed a resurgence in reputation, thank you in part to its availability on Xbox Games Pass and Steam. Rare has also began releasing normal Adventure updates and expanding the lore of the game with narrative-driven adventures and mysteries.
